Andreas Schuele earned doctoral degrees in both Ancient Near Eastern Studies and Old Testament from the University of Heidelberg and he received his Habilitation (Dr. habil.) from the University of Zurich. His research focuses on language, literary history, and theology of the Old Testament as well as on the intersection between exegesis and constructive theology. Schuele publishes in German and English. He has written and edited eight books, most recently an historical-religious study of the Balaam story (Numbers 22-24) and an historical exegesis on the Primeval History (Genesis 1-11) as prologue of the Hebrew Bible. Schuele’s current projects include a Zurich Bible Commentary on Genesis, a theological study In the Vicinity of God: Concepts of Divine Nearness in the Hebrew Bible’s, and an introduction to Biblical Aramaic.
