Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Theology, Reformed Theological Seminary

B.S., Pennsylvania State University,
M.Div., The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary,
Ph.D., Calvin Theological Seminary,

Bruce Baugus, Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Theology at RTS-Jackson, grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He was converted at the end of his sophomore year at Penn State where he completed a bachelor of science in Geography (1996). Immediately after graduation he married Tricia Ann Apple and relocated to Louisville, Kentucky, where he completed an M.Div. at Southern Seminary. While working on his M.Div. Bruce accepted a call to serve as solo-pastor of a small congregation in Maryland where he served for just under four years before returning to school to pursue his doctorate in philosophical and moral theology at Calvin Theological Seminary.

Bruce counts his years in pastoral ministry an invaluable supplement to his formal education for preparing him to be a seminary professor. Prior to joining the RTS faculty Bruce taught for five years at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and occasionally at Calvin College and Seminary. He is also an ordained ruling elder in the PCA—a ministry he deeply enjoys. Bruce delights in the privilege to devote himself to training and serving beside those called to serve the church through the ministry of word and sacrament, both in and out of the classroom. Bruce and Tricia have two sons: Nathanael and Bryant. On the side, Bruce loves to explore the American landscape, eat fresh seafood, and enjoy summers “up north.”
