Bruce holds a B.A. from Atlantic Baptist University, an M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, a Th.M. from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in practical theology and empirical theology from the University of Wales. His areas of teaching interest include: identifying and growing young leaders, building leaders through mission involvement, the call to vocational ministry, type theory and its application to ministry, leadership theory, strategic planning and change management, as well as fundraising and communications.

An ordained Baptist minister, Bruce served for seven years as a youth pastor in his hometown of Moncton, New Brunswick. In this role where he developed a ministry in partnership with more than 60 volunteer leaders to help local youth develop as Christian leaders, primarily though in-depth Bible teaching, mentoring, and short-term mission experiences. He taught Greek and Religious Studies part-time at Atlantic Baptist University (ABU) in Moncton and later served as the founding Director of the Youth Leadership Program, an innovative four-year program at ABU that combined classroom instruction and extensive ministry experience to help young adults develop the habits and heart necessary to be effective Christian leaders.

From 1999 until 2008 Bruce served on the staff of the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches, eastern Canada’s largest mission and ministry organization. As the Convention’s first Director of Youth and Family Ministries, he developed training programs for youth leaders and provided leadership to Springforth, one of Canada’s largest youth conferences, and Tidal Impact, Canada’s largest youth mission program. He later served the Convention as Director of Communications, Associate Executive Minister, and Acting Executive Minister. During this time he was actively involved in creating new communication initiatives as well as leading successful fundraising campaigns.
