Cynthia Uitermarkt graduated from Biola University, where she received the Bachelor of Music in Applied Piano, summa cum laude. She received the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts, both in piano performance, from the University of Washington in Seattle. Her principle instructors have been Marcile Mack, Russell Stepan, Alberto Rafols, and Patricia Michaelian.

A pianist who particularly enjoys vocal accompanying, Dr. Uitermarkt has appeared with numerous singers in concert throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Haiti, Switzerland, and Japan. She performs each summer at the Cannon Beach Conference Center in Oregon. She also lectures in the fields of church music and piano pedagogy, having lectured on this topic at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Carson-Newman College, National Association of Schools of Music annual meeting, and the American Guild of Organists 2006 Annual Convention.

Professor Uitermarkt has been on the faculty of the Moody Bible Institute since 1985, and has been Chair of the Sacred Music Department since 1994. She teaches Form & Analysis, Introduction to Music, and Accompanying & Ensemble Playing.
