Dan is originally from the state of Indiana, where he became a Christian as a teenager. His call to ministry has taken him into a variety of pastoral, academic, administrative, and cross-cultural settings. As an ordained minister in The Wesleyan Church, he has pastored churches in Kansas, Missouri, and Indiana; worked at the Wesleyan World Headquarters in Indianapolis; and served on the faculty and administration of Ohio Christian University. Dan and his wife, Joyce, were also appointed to service in England for several years where they provided leadership in the areas of theological education and church development.

Joyce serves on the music staff of Wesley Chapel in Jackson and also teaches as an adjunct instructor in the counseling program at Wesley College in Florence. Dan and Joyce are the parents of two young adult daughters.

Dr. Burnett joined the faculty of Wesley Biblical Theological Seminary in 2007. In addition to his seminary duties he also serves on the pastoral staff of Wesley Chapel and is an adjunct instructor at Wesley College. He is the author of In the Shadow of Aldersgate: An Introduction to the Heritage and Faith of the Wesleyan Tradition, and various articles, Bible study lessons, and devotional pieces.
