David joined the faculty of McCormick Theological Seminary in 1997 as dean of doctoral programs and continuing education. In May of 2004, he was named the James G. K. McClure Professor of Theological Education. Prior to joining McCormick, he taught New Testament at Pacific Theological College, and also served as acting director of the distance education program. He has taught New Testament at the Theological College of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, Nyasoso, and Kumba, and has lectured at colleges and seminaries in Australia, New Zealand, California, and throughout the South Pacific. His published works include More than a Story: Nine Studies for Women on the Parables of Jesus, which he co-authored, and two chapters in Opting for Change: A Handbook on Evaluation and Planning for Theological Education by Extension.

David is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). He and his wife, Jane, are the parents of Kirk, Leah, and Lillian.
