In addition to being a pastor for over 35 years, Dr. Sherman’s professional experience includes serving as associate professor of Sociology at Florida A&M University (1959-1967) and as professor of Sociology, director of the Gerontology program, and member of the graduate faculty at Albany State College from 1967 until his reirement in June 2002. He served on SACS accreditation committees in 1968, 1978, 1988 and 1998; he served as a member of the steering committee in 1988 and chaired a principle committee for the 1998 SACS study. Dr. Sherman has retired from Albany State University in June 2002.

Dr. Sherman has served as adjunct Professor for the S.B.C. Extension Program in Albany, GA (1971-1975), for Orange College, CA (1972-1974), for Walden University (1972-1976) and for Atlanta University (1976-1980). While adjunct teaching at Orange College, he directed doctoral students in thesis writing.
