George Sumner is the Principal of Wycliffe College. Besides administrative duties, travelling and preaching on behalf of the institution, George also teaches missiology, an introductory class Foundations of Theological Inquiry, and various reading courses for advanced degree students. He serves as faculty advisor to 3rd year M.Div. students. His research interests lie in the theology of missions, inter-religious dialogue, Anglicanism, and the theology of ordination. His forthcoming works include Being Salt, and a theological commentary on the Book of Daniel, with its mission-friendly interest in the Gentiles. George’s academic background is in systematic theology. He has served in various pastoral roles as a missionary teacher in an evangelical Anglican theological college in Tanzania, as pastor on a native reserve, and as parish priest in a small town. He is an honorary assistant at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Toronto. George and his wife Stephanie, a psychotherapist, have two children. He also enjoys playing squash and revelling in the now victorious Boston Red Sox.
Principal Sumner is a Canon to the Dioceses of Toronto and Saskatchewan.
