Ian Charter holds a Master of Music degree (MMus) in Choral Conducting and Literature from the University of Oregon School of Music. His undergraduate degrees are from Prairie Bible College (BRE 1977) and the University of Calgary (BEd 1981). Currently he is Associate Professor of Music at Ambrose University College (Ambrose) in Calgary, teaching conducting, music theory, and church music subjects in a Bachelor of Arts (Music) music program. He is also program head for the 4-year worship arts program at Ambrose with the Faculty of Theology. Presently he directs the 30-voice Ambrose College Singers and has a particular interest in choral composing and arranging. His collaborative performances of Handel’s Messiah with the Regina Symphony Orchestra as well as his appointment as Artistic Director of the Regina Philharmonic Choir (2002-2003 season) were highlights of his achievements while the college was situated in Regina. He is presently serving as choir director at First Baptist Church, Calgary. Ian and his wife Colleen are the parents of two children, Emily and Richard.
