Dr. James Hurley is Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy and chairman of the department. He is the only member of the faculty with doctoral level qualifications in three fields: New Testament, Theology, and Counseling. He holds a Ph.D. from Cambridge University and Florida State University. Dr. Hurley graduated magna cum laude from Harvard with a triple major —biochemistry, economics, and personality psychology. His first book, Man and Woman in Biblical Perspective, received the Gold Medallion award as the Evangelical Book of the Year and has become the touchstone volume regarding role relationships for men and women in the church. Several other volumes are in process, including sexuality, theology of sex, and infant baptism. He has been involved in Prison Fellowship, the Sexual Abuse Coalition, and served on the board of Mt. Salus Christian School. He is a clinical member and approved clinical supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and a practicing professional therapist. He is also a board member of the Mississippi Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and the Pastoral Counseling Institute.
