As a teacher and researcher, Jean Stairs is fascinated by what she describes as “reflective practice in Christian ministry” - those habits of heart, mind and soul that enable our embedded theological convictions to be explored critically and developed spiritually in the light of tradition and contemporary challenges. Her areas of teaching include field education, preaching, the relationship between pastoral care and spiritual direction, and feminist theology. Her new book, Listening for the Soul: Pastoral Care and Spiritual Direction, invites us to a dynamic reconsideration of pastoral care and spirituality in the Protestant ethos.
