Joel is Professor of Preaching at Truett Seminary and Distinguished Fellow of Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY. He is founder and principal of Joel Gregory Ministries, an international ministry of teaching and preaching.

Joel earned two degrees from Baylor University, B.A. summa cum laude and Ph.D. He holds the M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he also taught preaching for three years.

Joel served Texas Baptist churches for 25 years, including the pastorate of Travis Avenue in Fort Worth and First Baptist, Dallas. Joel was elected twice unanimously as President of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He served for years as the preacher on the International Baptist Hour on more than 500 stations. He addressed the Baptist World Alliance in Seoul and the Baptist New Covenant in Atlanta. In the recent year Joel spoke 181 times in 28 churches and 34 conferences in the USA, UK and Ghana.

Over the last four summers Joel has taught preaching to more than 100 pastors in Proclaimers Place seminars at Regents Park College Oxford.

Joel will give the Donald Macleod Lectures on Preaching at Princeton Theological Seminary in 2010 and is the featured speaker at the Mercer Preaching Consultation 2008. He is the author of Gregory’s Sermon Synopses, Growing Pains of the Soul, Homesick for God, James: Faith Works and Too Great A Temptation, his memoir which formed the basis for “God’s Man in Texas,” on of the most performed plays in community theaters nationally. He is co-author and co-editor of four other books. He recently contributed the article on “Expository Preaching” to the forthcoming Abingdon Dictionary of Preaching.

Joel is married to Joanne Michele Tomlin Gregory and is father of Grant and Garrett.
