Director of Master of Arts in Church Development, Winebrenner Theological Seminary

Professor Joel W. Cocklin presently serves as the Director of Leadership Formation at Winebrenner Theological Seminary located in Findlay, Ohio , where he has taught since 2009. He also serves as the Director of the Masters of Art in Church Development degree program. Ordained by the Churches of God, General Conference in 1972, he pastored the New Cumberland First Church of God, New Cumberland, PA for ten years and then served as a U.S. Army Chaplain for 27 years, retiring at the rank of Colonel.

Professor Cocklin graduated from Findlay College , Findlay, Ohio in 1969 with a Bachelors of Arts (B.A.) degree in psychology. He earned a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree from Winebrenner Theological Seminary in 1972. He completed 24 hours of post graduate work on a Masters of Sacred Theology (S.T.M.) degree in homiletics at The Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg, PA. He graduated from Kansas State University , Manhattan, KS in 1990 with a Masters of Science (M.S.) degree in Human Development and Family Studies. He received a Masters of Strategic Studies (M.S.S.) degree in 2004 from the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle, PA.

Professor Cocklin has extensive experience in mentoring and leadership development. Besides working with hundreds of pastors in the United States, he has lived for over six years in Germany and traveled throughout the Caribbean, Central and South America working with senior military leaders and military chaplains in developing better leadership skills. He has a specialization in family and marriage therapy and well known for his inspirational, motivational speaking.

He is the recipient of numerous military awards and citations. He is married to the former Kay Royer, an elementary school educator. They have three grown married children, six grandchildren and one on the way.
