Dr. John D. Castelein was born in France (1948), raised in Belgium, and became an American citizen in 1984. He attended Johnson Bible College (1966-68) and graduated from Lincoln Christian College in 1970. He earned an M.A. in Theology and a M.Div. in Theology from Lincoln Christian Seminary in 1977. He received the Ph.D. in Theology in 1988 from the Divinity School of the University of Chicago. Prior to coming to the LCCS campus to teach, he has had preaching ministries in Valparaiso (Indiana), Rutland and Streator (Illinois), and his hometown Genk, Belgium. While teaching fulltime in the seminary, he was the preaching minister at Lincoln Christian Church from 2001 to 2006. Dr. Castelein first taught at the College in the areas of theology and the IDS program from 1977 until 1992. He started teaching in the Seminary in the area of Contemporary Theology in 1992. Besides general theology topics, of special academic interest to him are all aspects of our postmodern culture, theology of movies, and mind/brain issues in Neurotheology. He has taught at TCM (Austria) and in Khersom, Ukraine. He has done workshops in many churches and conferences on several campuses including the North American Christian Convention. John enjoys traveling to new places with his wife Marie, reading, movie critiquing, and photography.
