Preparation for ministry began immediately after first trusting Christ in high school, around the time he met his wife, Cathy. Bible college, seminary, days of ministry, and years of doctoral work have followed.

Cathy and I began our family toward the end of my seminary days. Jason, our oldest, is now working as an architect in Norfolk. Our daughter, Alison, finished an associates degree and is working at a local insurance agency. Our children have truly been our delight. As a family we love to spend time at the beach. Eating out, finding a good cup of coffee, entertaining, and yard work are things Cathy and I enjoy.

I am blessed to be involved in preparing students for a ministry of the Word. Although the responsibility is overwhelming at times, the Lord’s resources are sweet and satisfying (Isa 41:10-13).

My particular interest in biblical studies is the older Testament, its language and the canonical section referred to as the Former Prophets. My interest is related to the positive life influences of a pastor and seminary professors who loved the Old Testament, who preached it accurately, who modeled a sound hermeneutic, and who had a love for the church.
