Before coming to Wycliffe College in 1997, John Bowen worked for many years with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship of Canada. He teaches courses on evangelism and culture, church planting, leadership, preaching, and evangelistic teaching, and brings to the classroom a particular interest in lay leadership, the spirituality of movies and the theology of C.S.Lewis and the Inklings. John’s second responsibility at the College is to direct the Institute of Evangelism, which was begun in 1991 to provide resources in evangelism and congregational development for the church across Canada. In this capacity, he speaks and leads workshops at conferences for clergy and lay leaders. He also edits and writes for two series of booklets, one evangelistic (The Dare Booklets), the other practical manuals for church leaders (The Wycliffe Booklets on Evangelism). The Institute also produces good idea!, a twice-yearly magazine about congregational evangelism. Originally from Wales, John is married to Deborah, an English professor; they have two adult children.
