Julia Pizzuto-Pomaco is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) currently pastoring a congregation in Daretown, Salem County, New Jersey. She recently served six years on West Jersey Presbytery’s Committee on Preparation for Ministry, with three years as vice-chair. Julia has worked as a social worker in child welfare and as a mobile therapist. She has served as a missionary with Scripture Union in Scotland working with children, youth and local churches.

Julia has published “Unity in the Midst of Diversity: The Early Church at Rome as Reflected in Romans 16” in Who Killed Goliath?: Reading the Bible with Heart and Mind (Judson Press, 2000). She presented “Honor and Women in the Ancient Mediterranean” at the Mid-Atlantic SBL Regional Meeting in March 2006. She will present “Social Workers Assisting the Church: A Lesson in Hurricane Katrina” at the North American Christians in Social Work convention in October 2006.

Julia has taught Biblical Studies for Eastern’s School of Christian Ministry since 1998. She has been teaching in our M.Div./M.S.W. program since 1999 and also teaches in our Biblical Studies Department.

She is interested in the integration of social work and ministry, social justice issues, and she also has a special interest in women in the biblical text, particularly in the New Testament. Julia is a member of North American Christians in Social, Society of Biblical Literature, and Christians for Biblical Equality.
