Luis first came to Texas in 1977 while serving in the United Sates Army. He led the Human Relations Program at the battalion level providing counsel and training on Race Relations and Diversity. He has an undergraduate degree in Sociology and a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. As a licensed counselor he developed a multicultural practice. As an ordained minister Luis has pastored congregations, both Hispanic and Anglo, in Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Florida, and Texas.
Luis has now returned to Texas to serve as Director of the Center for Latina/o Church Studies. The Center is focused on how the growing Latina/o population challenges the traditional Christian approach to blending religion and culture.
