Pastor Mark W. Olsen was called to serve as Director of Admissions at the Seminary beginning in August 2006. Prior to accepting his current call, Pastor Mark served as the Senior Pastor of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alexandria, VA for five years (from August 2001 to August 2007).

Mark was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in a family filled with faith and love and was sustained and nurtured in his faith among the people of Zion Lutheran Church in Brooklyn. He confirmed his faith through the Affirmation of Baptism in 1977.

Mark attended Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York and received a BA in International Relations upon graduating in 1984. Mark was on active duty as an Army Intelligence Officer from 1984 to 1988 and worked as a civilian at the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C. from 1988 to 1997.

In 1987 Mark married his wife, Kari, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, where they had both been members since their youth. They were active members of Nativity Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Virginia, from 1988 to 1993 and of Abiding Presence Lutheran Church in Burke, Virginia from 1993 to 1997, when Mark began seminary. Mark graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg in May 2001. Pastor Mark and Kari have two high school-aged children; the Olsen family continues to live in Northern Virginia.
