Growing up playing and studying violin from the age of four, Markus did not consider becoming involved in theological education until he finished his B.A. at Seattle Pacific University in 1993. Entering CIU as a student in the Graduate Bible Certificate program, it became clear to him after the first semester that he wanted to pursue theological studies and thus completed a M.Div. in Missions in 1996.

After meeting his wife to be, Julia, at CIU, they married in her home country of Germany where he also worked for two years in a German church, first as a pastoral assistant and later as an interim pastor. In 1999 they moved back to the US where he began doctoral studies at Dallas Theological Seminary. During this time the Lord added three girls to the family and he was involved in his church with the adult Sunday School program and leading worship. In his last year of studies, he also served as adjunct faculty at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Currently, the Klauslis serve in Korntal as missionaries with Liebenzell USA. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and has research interests in the General Epistles and especially 1 Peter.
