M.S., Illinois State University, 1990

Mrs. Miriam Windham began teaching part-time at Lincoln Christian College in 1987 as a Visiting Lecturer, becoming a part-time Assistant Professor in 1992, full-time Associate Professor in 1996, and Full Professor in 2007. She began her post-secondary education by studying Bible at Dallas Christian College and then Lincoln Christian College. She completed her B.S. in English/Secondary Education at Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina during the years her husband, Dr. Neal Windham, was teaching at Roanoke Bible College. Since returning to Lincoln, IL, she has completed an M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction at Illinois State University, obtained an Academic Certificate in TESOL, and completed the Ph.D. residency requirements in English Studies at Illinois State University.

Mrs. Windham’s teaching at Lincoln Christian College and Seminary falls largely in the areas of Interdisciplinary Studies (lecturing on art and literature) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), a program in which students are trained to teach English as a second or foreign language. She was responsible for developing and implementing the TESOL program at Lincoln Christian College and Seminary in 1996 and has been serving as Program Director since that time. After realizing the need for a TESOL program which could serve missionaries on the field, she has also developed a TESOL distance-learning program which includes both internet and video courses. Since that time students have completed the program from as far away as India, Argentina, Hong Kong and Africa.

In order to stay abreast of the TESOL field, Mrs. Windham attends international and local TESOL conferences, and has observed and participated in ESL/EFL classes in Dallas, TX; Seattle, WA; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Manchester, NH; Champaign, IL; Bloomington/Normal, IL; Springfield, IL and Luang Prabang, Laos. In the area of Interdisciplinary Studies, particularly in the field of Literature, she occasionally attends the following conferences: National Council of Teachers’ of English (NCTE), Poetics and Linguistics Association (PALA); and the Conference of College English Teachers (CEA). One of the most enriching experiences contributing to the teaching of Art History was joining the 2001 European Study Tour to Italy and Greece.

Dr. and Mrs. Windham have been members of Lincoln Christian Church since moving to Lincoln in 1986 and have served as teachers in many areas. Mrs. Windham is currently a member of the Missions Team at Lincoln Christian Church. She also has been the speaker for numerous ladies’ retreats (IL, IN, NC) and for mother/daughter banquets. She has also spoken in chapel at LCC, and presented workshops for LCCS Ladies’ Day as well as workshops for the National Missionary Convention.
