Prof. Smith comes to Gordon-Conwell from Michigan Theological Seminary, Plymouth, MI, where he was Assistant Professor of Theology and Philosophy. He is a Ph.D. candidate at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, where his research is in the area of religious epistemology.

Prof. Smith brings to Gordon-Conwell extensive academic, ministry and professional experience. Before becoming an assistant professor at Michigan Theological Seminary, he held adjunct faculty positions at William Tyndale College, Wayne State University and Gordon-Conwell’s Center for Urban Ministerial Education. He has provided theological education to pastors and leaders in Zambia, Africa. Most recently he was on staff as Theologian-in-Residence at Woodside Bible Church of Troy, MI and has been involved in cross-cultural ministry with various ethnic groups.

Prof. Smith also serves professionally as the Ethics Coordinator for Angela Hospice Care Center, Livonia, MI and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Michigan Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. He has given numerous seminars and professional presentations on issues in the philosophy of religion, moral philosophy, clinical ethics, bioethics and theology at professional meetings, national and regional conferences, in various health care organizations, in churches, on radio, and on college and university campuses.

Prof. Smith is a member of the National Council of Hospice and Palliative Professionals, the Society of Christian Philosophers, the Evangelical Philosophical Society, the Evangelical Theological Society, and the Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity. He has published articles, essays, and critical reviews of books in journals such as Philosophia Christi, Christian Scholar’s Review, Ethics & Medicine, Trinity Journal and Modern Reformation, among others.

He enjoys listening to classic jazz and watching baseball and college football. He and his wife Johnelle have been married since 1998. They have two beautiful children.
