Professor of History and Theology, Emeritus, Wartburg Theological Seminary

Ph.D., Princeton Theological Seminary,
B.Div., Ev. Lutheran Theological Seminary,
B.A., Princeton University,

Ralph W. Quere is professor emeritus of history and theology at Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa Called to the seminary in 1969, Quere also served for three years in the rural parish at St. Donatus and LaMotte. Special focus on the reformers was expanded to include courses from early to modern church history, history of doctrine and the Lutheran Confessions. In 1973 Quere also began teaching evangelism courses, publishing Evangelical Witness and, with Elten Zerby, an evangelical training course for laity.
Quere served on the Lutheran Episcopal dialog and as secretary on the Liturgical Text Commission of the Inter-Lutheran Commission on Worship and published a history of The Lutheran Book of Worship: In the Context of Unity. In recent years, Quere has focused on youth evangelism, working on a theology for youth outreach and “producing” musicals based on Luke’s and John’s gospels, with alumnus Rev. Jon Anderson composing most of the music.

Having retired in 2003, Professor Quere continues to offer courses on Luther and on-line The Lutheran Confessions. He continues to work on a book on theology for youth evangelism. He is to spend six weeks at the Melanchthon Institute located at Christ the King Church in Houston, Texas early in 2007.
