Riess Potterveld is the tenth president of Lancaster Theological Seminary and began his term of service as president in July, 2002. An ordained minister in the United Church of Christ (1971), he previously served as Vice President and Acting Dean at Pacific School of Religion from 1993 – 2002. Riess was senior minister of the Congregational Church of Northridge in California for eighteen years and was co-founder and president of the Valley Shelter, a large, multi-service homeless shelter, during the same period. He taught in the religious studies department of California State University at Northridge, for 12 years beginning in 1980.
