Research on diverse forms of Christian education and his interests in multiculturalism and mentoring help to shape his work with various groups and schools in the U.S.

His books include Latin American Journey: Insights for Christian Education in North America, and By What Authority Do We Teach? A second edition of his widely used text, Foundational Issues in Christian Education, was published in 1997. His recent works include Basics of Teaching for Christians (1998) and God Our Teacher (2001). An ordained American Baptist minister, he joined the faculty in 1986 after teaching five years at Gordon-Conwell Theological School.
