Dr. Steinke begins her second term as Dean of the Seminary this fall, having accepted election by the Seminary Board of Directors last spring. She started teaching at the Seminary in 1999 and directed the Seminary’s Washington D.C. program, known as the Lutheran Center for Theology and Public Life. Favorite areas of writing and research include Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and issues in theology and public life. Dr. Steinke recently was elected to the Association of Theological Schools Board of Commissioners responsible for all accreditation matters of the 250 plus member schools. She currently serves as an ELCA delegate to the National of Churches in Christ General Assembly. Her service as chair of the Policy Council Committee of the statewide advocacy organization, Lutheran Advocacy Ministries of Pennsylvania (LAMPA) provides a creative venue for finding concrete ways the church can live into its call to be advocates on social justice issues. She also serves as “dean of deans” for the ELCA’s eight seminaries and is a highly sought-after speaker in ELCA and ecumenical circles.
