Director of Field Education; Lecturer, Pastoral Care and Counseling, Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago

B.A., Augsburg College,
M.Div., Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg,
Ph.D., Luther Seminary,

As Director for Field Education, Swanson brings a variety of ministry experiences to the position, having served in parish ministry in Cairo, Egypt (where she was ordained in 1994) and in the Twin Cities. She also served as the interim director for Luther Seminary’s Global Mission Institute, a place of hospitality for many international students. Ministry in Cairo included work with immigrants and refugees which led to doctoral work focused on issues of transition and identity in Oromo women in St. Paul. Swanson brings this interest in cross-cultural issues to the teaching of pastoral care. She has a particular interest in narrative approaches to care and counseling in helping to understand life stories.
