The Rev. Dr. Surekha Nelavala is an ordained Lutheran minister from India, rostered in ELCA. She carries diverse and wider experience from advocacy, ordained ministry, administrative and teaching positions in which she served. She cultivated inter-cultural and inter-contextual perspectives as a biblical scholar through her international experience, exposure and participation in various forums. Her teaching interests are in Biblical hermeneutics and integrated courses of cultural studies, feminist studies and postcolonial studies. She is committed to the cause of bringing scholarship and people together in developing praxis-oriented liberating hermeneutics of the Bible.

Previously, Surekha Nelavala taught in Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, Chennai, India. She moved to United States in 2002 to pursue her studies. She will be graduating in May 2008, with PhD in Biblical Studies from Drew University, NJ.

Surekha Nelavala loves reading, cooking, and traveling. She is married to John Ponnala, a Chaplain from Johns Hopkins University Hospital. They have a loving son, Nishanth Ponnala, a 2nd Grader. Their entire extended family lives in India.
